Alchemy is two connected systems

Graveyard Keeper 2 separates experimentation from fixed crafting:

• Laboratory formulas combine ingredients by their revealed rune colors. The formula asks for colors, not one mandatory pair of item names.
• Workbench recipes at the Distillation Cube or Formulation Bench use named inputs after the relevant technology is unlocked.

That distinction explains why an ingredient can be valid in the Laboratory but absent from a bench recipe list.

Unlock and study ingredients first

1. Unlock Alchemy start in the Anatomy and alchemy technology branch. It opens Laboratory I, a flask shelf and the Dream Dust formula.
2. Use the Study Table to reveal an ingredient's runes. Studying consumes Science, and some entries also ask for Faith.
3. Gain Science by processing suitable research materials at the Study Table; save weekly sermon Faith for research that explicitly needs it.
4. Take studied ingredients to the Laboratory and match the color slots shown by the formula.

If a formula refuses an ingredient, verify that it has been studied and that its revealed rune matches the requested slot.

First useful formula: Dream Dust

Community footage demonstrates blood plus water as an easy green-and-blue combination for Dream Dust. It is a teaching recipe: once both ingredients are studied, the same rune-matching logic applies to later formulas. Dream Dust also connects to the early Plague Doctor quest line and the first free zombie workers.

Distillation and formulation

Alchemy, Distillation unlocks the Distillation Cube and Melted Fat production. The Formulation Bench then supports fixed recipes used in body preparation and resurrection. Examples in the site's structured recipe records include:

• Solution for Corpses: Melted Fat + Preservative.
• Solution for Zombies: Alcohol + Preservative.
• Injection for Corpses: the corpse solution path plus a Comet's Tail.
• Injection for Zombies: the zombie solution path plus a Comet's Tail.
• Reanimation Liquid: Alcohol + Catalyst.

Those records are extracted data and remain marked unverified until they are checked against the current build. Use the linked recipe page as the exact input record and the workstation UI as the final authority.

Efficient research order

• Study cheap, common ingredients before spending Faith on rarer ones.
• Unlock the formula required by the active quest before exploring optional branches.
• Keep one shelf or chest for unstudied ingredients and another for known alchemy stock.
• Record the rune colors you already have so you do not study an expensive duplicate only to fill the same slot.
• Link alchemy production to the energy and insanity guide: long study and anatomy sessions are easier when recovery food is prepared first.

Update 1.008 fixed spacing in the Alchemy folio, while 1.009 fixed grape juice and wine starting the wrong Study Table survey. If a survey still looks wrong, confirm the PC build before spending more materials.
