Graveyard Keeper 2 Zombie Quality & Perks
Zombie quality in Graveyard Keeper 2 comes down to red skulls: each one is a perk slot. Learn how to build a five-red zombie from body parts instead of waiting for luck.
Red skulls are perk slots
Zombie quality is one number: the red skull count. A one-red zombie gets a single perk; a five-red zombie gets up to five, and every perk is real output — perks stack to a large bonus (the reference build reaches +8). "Crafting a good zombie" literally means pushing the red bar to five before resurrection.
Natural bodies stop around four
Do not wait for a naturally generated five-red corpse — testing turned up none. The best natural find was a four-red, four-white body, which is worth keeping in storage as a base. Five red is built, not found.
The parts-swap trick
A corpse's skull counts are the sum of its parts, and parts can be replaced at the autopsy table:
- Carry the red-skull replacement part (for example a red-skull skin).
- Remove the body's own matching part first.
- Click in and fit the red one.
A four-red body with a red-skull skin fitted becomes five red instantly.
Where parts come from: your own graveyard
The parts store is the ground outside. Old graves hold bodies whose good parts were never pulled — a useful tell is a corpse whose fat and blood were extracted but nothing else, which usually means the keeper at the time lacked the anatomy mastery to remove the rest.
To exhume, buy an Exhumation Certificate from the merchant in the pub (about five silver). At the grave you cannot just dig: remove the wooden fence, then the sign, then take the body and spend the certificate.
The anatomy mastery bottleneck
Good parts have mastery requirements — the example bone with 1 red + 1 white needs 4 anatomy mastery. If you are below the requirement, each extraction tick carries a failure chance (3 of 4 mastery means roughly 75% per tick), and one bad tick destroys the part. Over seven or more ticks, gambling is almost a guaranteed loss.
The workaround is food. A Vegetable Salad (2 onions + 2 beets; onions from the town merchant) grants +1 to +4 anatomy mastery, scaling with dish quality — bronze, silver or gold — which in turn scales with your farming mastery. A gold salad in the reference run granted +3, lifting anatomy 3 over the requirement of 4 for a clean extraction. See the farming guide for raising dish quality.
Finishing the build
Once the part fits cleanly, prepare the body on the Resurrection Table and wait for the Snake day (the lightning day) as described in how to raise zombies. The table recharges between uses — roughly one zombie per week — so spend each resurrection on a high-red body, and level your workers fast by pushing easy jobs like pottery.
